Week 5: Irvine Sunset [Sierra]

Normally I don't get to pay much attention to sunsets when I'm out driving because I'm never the passenger, but my sister came to visit me this weekend and it gave me a chance to admire the sunset last night when we were driving back to campus. Not only do I love the color gradient of bright orange to pale blue as the sun goes down, I really loved the way the light is reflecting and bouncing off of the clouds to give them a more defined texture. The clouds themselves were pretty wispy and weren't very full-bodied, but with the way the highlights and shadows are hitting them, they pop a lot more and feel so much more 3-dimensional. The image above really doesn't do justice to how pretty and almost unreal it looked in person. Much like my first blog post about the sunset in Santa Barbara, seeing the sky like this felt like I was looking at something that belonged in a painting.

Great image and I love your comment that the light helps to provide definition to the clouds :)
